Problem Solving short story

The lettered pages for Problem Solving, my three page comic for Studio 2. I think overall it came out well. It's been a while since I've toned pages but with all the work I'm doing in the pencils and inks, there's actually less room to tone on these pages without overdoing things. So that's good. I'm not reliant on the tones to set the mood or anything, just enhance what I have here.

I hope you enjoy it!

Editor's Day Report

Yesterday was SCAD Savannah's editors day, where editors from 10 different publishers came to give advice and portfolio reviews. I had three reviews yesterday: Rebecca Taylor of Archaia, Sana Amanat of Marvel, and Mark Doyle of Vertigo. Twas a long drive but I got some really good advice from these three, and I can't thank them enough. I'm hoping they'll return next year and I can show them pages 10x better than what I showed them.

I took 15 pages with me, the inks for the short story "Shop Romance," a page of pencils for "Closing Time" and these 5 pages of a Hibrida Prima pitch project for class; not including the teaser, I took the pencils and inks for these 5.

The pages I'm posting here do include the advice that I was given. I think it really helped me shave off as much of the rough edges as I could manage. Back to work then!

Pitch Project Page 4 Inked

Here's page four inked. I did this with the g-pen this evening. I think it turned out rather well, I'm happy to use one of my favorite tools in my current works, so I'm going to try using the g-pen and the brush in future pages. I hope you like the results.

This page will be in my portfolio that I take to Editor's Day on May 18.

Pitch Pencil Pages and Editors Day News

The pencils pages for my promotional pitch package (Hooray for alliteration). These pages are from the first book of Hibrida Prima, from a sequence specifically to show people the aesthetic for the book and also the kinda of stuff it'll cover. In this case, SPY STUFF!

These are pages 1, 2 and 4 out of 5 total.

Also, next week I'll be traveling to Savannah to participate in another SCAD editor's day. I'm going to get a portfolio review from editors at Marvel, DC/Vertigo, and Archaia. Wish me luck!!

Studio 2 Inked and Lettered pages

These are the inked and lettered pages from my Studio 2 class. Not perfect work but still progress. I was playing around with using dry brush inking that I've enjoyed in books like Fatale, but as fun as this was, I don't think I'll keep using dry brush exclusively. But, I'll continue to explore with techniques and hopefully find something that suits how I draw.
