Ether City Police Department

Hey all! Just a quick Sunday post with some pages from a short comic I created called ECPD! It's my own take on a Cyberpunk universe with my own personal flair, so it's sure to be weird! Anyhow, I hope you dig it!

Artist Network Article

On Februrary 6th, my first article went live on the Artists Network! The article is about how I find inspiration from the materials that I use to make art, and how I think some artists might overlook what their supplies can do for them. I'll also post some of the art I created for the article to prove my points.

Supplies: Daniel Smith & Sennelier Watercolors, Holbein gouache, Mitsubishi and Faber Castell Pencils, Stillman and Birn Alpha, Epsilon, Gray and Beige Nova paper.

SketchKon 2018 Fun and Sketchbook update!

On November 2-4 in Pasadena California, the first ever Sketch Kon was held and I had the pleasure/privilege to represent Stillman & Birn at the event. Stillman & Birn, for those who don't know, make my favorite line of papers and are, quite literally, the only paper that I am willing to draw on anymore. I spent that weekend manning the Stillman & Birn booth, talking with attendees about making art and art supplies, and showing them some of my work and talking about my process. It was probably, one of the best weekends of my life. I was surrounded by so many creative people, I was representing a product I believe in, and I got the chance to draw some cool things!

Below are some of the highlights of the sketches I did at the event. These were done in 2 of S&B's newest lines of paper, the Nova series which come in Beige, Gray, and Black toned papers. These were mainly done in my beige and gray books, I'm building up my skills to be able to tackle the black paper, and I used gouache, watercolors, poster paint markers, pencils, inks, and acrylic inks on these. That's a loooot of tools to use, but this paper is amazing!

Spencer and Locke Movie Option

So this is really cool news which is unlike all my other posts so far. The comic I co-created with David Pepose has been optioned for a film! There's a lot of speculation right now and it's still very early, but I wanted to share this news to my page as a time capsule moment of "We did it!" Here is a link to the press release and a few Spencer and Locke pages to look at!

I want to use this chance to thank everyone who has supported me throughout the years, I could make comics comfortably because of you all! Let's all cross our fingers that this movie gets made!

Spencer and Locke issue 2 Inks

A bit late, but here are my inks for the 2nd issue, which has my first ever car chase scene, which I'm actually pretty proud of.

These pages were inked with Zebra and Pentel brush pens on Stillman and Birn Alpha paper. I had to use smaller tools since the panels were smaller than what I tend to do so my actual brush was out of the question.

Spencer and Locke issue 2 preview inks

Here are the inks for the preview pages of Spencer and Locke 2. I like sharing the process of the art, I feel like it's too hard to find the inks for comics a lot of the time. There's a few weird references in these pages, one to TMNT, one to Batman Year One, and one of people playing Wii games. Can you find them?

Tools: Zebra and Kuretake disposable brush pens, Pentel Color Brush and the Hybrid Technica
Paper: Stillman and Birn Alpha Paper

The S&L team is David Pepose on words, Jasen Smith on colors, and Colin Bell on letters. I originally wrote this as if we were a band, but I dunno if it made sense.
