Curse of the Eel c4 p1-7 inks

Hello internet! Here are some pages of inks from the next chapter of Curse of the Eel. I've been working on this one again finally, and I'm really happy with how these are turning out. I switched to a new brush and I'm getting really great lines from it. I used a Raphael 8404 #3 brush, which is the same size as the last brush I was using, it's just not as battle worn. That brush lasted me about a year, that's pretty good I think. Anyhow, here are the inks. The paper is Stillman and Birn beta paper. It's the only paper I really trust to do pencils, inks, and watercolors on.

My plan is to have this chapter printed by SPX on Sept. 19-20, so wish me luck!

6/30 Urban Sketching: Landscape

Here are the 2 stages of the landscape I drew yesterday. I was outside a Barnes and Noble in Marietta, and it wasn’t the ideal spot/layout/drawing/etc. I’m happy I finished it, just cuz my initial response was “oh wow this is messed up, just stop and do something else.” Which is a voice in my head I need to work on silencing.Overall, twas a fun experiment. I just inked everything in with no pencil underdrawing then added in watercolor for fun.

Kuretake brush pens for the majority, which were great cuz they’re waterproof like champs. I used a Pentel Hybrid Technica in spots, and it was great too, but it wasn’t as waterproof and shifted a little. I’m happy though, its an interesting texture. All of this was done on 11x17 Stillman and Birn Beta paper.

Summer and Autumn

So I've been motivated to paint more and to focus on illustrations instead of just my usual ventures, so I decided to take a leaf from Alphonse Mucha's book. I loved Mucha's work a lot in undergrad, and at a friend's place recently I saw large prints of his Seasons, and I decided to try my hand at it. Here are my Summer and Autumn.

Tools: Watercolor, gouache, and water soluble pencils
Paper: Stillman and Birn Delta sketchbook

My Trip to Berkeley, California

I recently returned from a short trip to Berkeley, CA where I was invited to give a presentation about why I love to use Stillman and Birn paper and to try out some new products coming out later this year. That's the reason I went, but the experience was so much more amazing than even just that alone.

I met so many kind art supply reps, artists, art store owners and even just people in the area who were so kinda and said amazingly flattering things about me that the whole trip felt like a dream. I was told by many that they loved having me there and that they really enjoyed my art and hoped that I could make all my dreams happen. Well, this was certainly one of them.

As a kid, my favorite books to have were related to art, especially when we would get art supply catalogs in the mail. I never would have thought, some 20 years later, that I would be befriending and networking with art supply people or with stores who have told they want me to come by and do demos at their stores. It was an amazing experience and one that I'll always remember!

Thank you to everyone who I spoke with, presented to, and just was there to make this event a blast! I also want to thank Stillman and Birn, specifically Michael, for inviting me to the event and for taking a chance on me to help promote your product! Now it's time for me to get back to drawing, I have a convention to prepare for!

Below are some of the drawings that I did while on the trip, all of which were done in a new type of Stillman and Birn sketchbook that is one of the best sketchbooks I've ever had. I filled up at least 12-15 pages of it in 3 days, and I can't wait to share more of it!
